Corrections

The following corrections have been noted to the printed text. Any remaining errors of fact or interpretation are our own.

• On page 19, Margaret Chase Smith is described as the first woman to be elected to the Senate. The Senator’s actual distinction was being the first woman elected to serve in both the House and the Senate. In 1932 Hattie Caraway of Arkansas was elected to the U.S. Senate, winning a special election, and then was re-elected in 1938.
• On page 24, Nawal Soufi is described as a Sicilian humanitarian. In fact, she was born in Syria and lives in Sicily.
• On page 76, The town of Kyustendil is described as being southeast of the capital of Bulgaria. In fact, it is 50 miles southwest of the capital, Sofia.
• On page 130, The GATT is described as a 40-year-old post-war agreement. In fact, the WTO merged from it in 1995 and therefore the GATT was actually a 48-year-old post-war agreement.
• On page 152, The quote from Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit, is dated 2010. In fact, the quotation comes from a note he wrote in 2012.
• On page 223, The name of Rainford Zukulu is misspelled. His name is Rainford not Rainform.
• On page 241, El Capitan is described as “the tallest exposed vertical face of granite on earth.” In fact, geographers associate the tallest vertical drop with Mount Thor on Baffin Island, Canada.
